TGIF – Lemon and Basil Vodka Martini and Lemonade

Wow! It feels like summer is coming now! Fresh basil and a bit of citrus is just what I need to kick off this weekend.

The Vodka Infusion

First, we need to prepare our vodka. You can use any kind, but we recommend getting at least a middle of the line quality. Today we used Russian Standard. We like to take mason jars and pour the vodka over fresh lemon slices and fresh basil. Let the jar sit over night. We like to place it in the freezer so that it is perfectly chilled.

Let’s skip ahead to tomorrow. Your vodka should now be infused with the lemon-basil flavors. This is such a good way to mix alcohol because you get lots of flavor without adding juices, or other sugars and add a bit of freshness.

Lemon Basil Martini

There is something special about having a fresh martini. There is a reason that Humphrey Bogart, FDR, Clark Gable, Hemingway, WC Fields, and James Bond all enjoyed the martini as their drink of choice. Here is a great recipe that not only looks good but tastes great too:

Ingredients:

  • Fresh Basil
  • Lemon
  • Lemon-Basil infused vodka
  • Ice

Directions:

  • Chill your martini glass either by placing in the freezer for 5 minutes or by adding ice to fill it.
  • Pour a generous amount of your infused vodka into a shaker and fill the rest with ice.
  • Shake 30 seconds or until the shaker is fully frosted from shaking.
  • Pour your infused vodka into your chilled martini glass and garnish with fresh lemon and basil.

Lemonade and Watermelon Lemon-Basil Vodka

Ingredients

  • Your favorite lemonade
  • Lemons, Lime and other optional citrus fruit.
  • Lemon-Basil infused vodka
  • Fresh cubed watermelon
  • Sliced Lemon for garnish
  • Ice

Directions

  • Make your lemonade, adding slices of lemons, limes and any other citrus fruits you may have on hand.
  • Cut up the watermelon. You will want some slices with the husk for garnish, and some cut into bite sized pieces to float in the lemonade.
  • Slice the lemon and put in the lemonade.

For the kids – Pour and serve.

For the adults – Add the Lemon-Basil infused vodka to preferred strength and serve.
