Homemade Ginger Ale From Scratch

I love ginger! Not only is it refreshing and tastes great, it helps with sour stomach and nausea too!  I know my wife used to run to our local Big Bowl Restaurant to order their ginger ale when she was pregnant. Now, we figured out how to make this great drink on our own. Like most things, it isn’t that difficult to make if you know how. Here’s my take on making your own ginger ale:

To make this Ginger Ale, you will need:

  • 1  1/4 cup peeled and sliced fresh ginger (the more ginger the more flavor)
  • 2 heaping tbls whole black peppercorn
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • sparkling water
  • Lemon for garnish

The first step is to make a simple syrup. A simple syrup is just equal parts white sugar and water dissolved together. So we will start by bringing two cups of water to a boil, stirring in the sugar until it is completely dissolved.

Reduce the heat of the boiling water. Peel and slice the ginger into one-inch chunks. Add the ginger, and the peppercorn to the water.
