Great River Road 11 – Muscatine to Hannibal
This series is about riding the Great River Road from Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico. This leg of the trip we end up in Hannibal, Mo.
What a roller coaster we have been on with the weather. I hate to sound so obsessive about it, but traveling by motorcycle you are out in the elements all day. You plan your route and schedule around the weather. It is an art and knowing something about meteorology is a big plus. The rain of the last few days and riding through it left our bikes looking dirty and dingy and Harley Grandma and I physically drained. The heavy rain overnight cleaned the big chunks off the bikes but left us a little surprise when we go on the bikes the next morning. You see the stitching on the seats leak just a little and with a lot of rain when you put your bottom on the seat all the rain water that collects in the padding squirts back out through the seams and right into your jeans. Now you ride with a serious case of wet bottom. It’s all part of the experience.
Leaving the hotel we headed for downtown Muscatine to check out the riverfront. A short stop at the visitors bureau to thank Hannah for the help in planning this trip. I found another statue of liberty. Just outside city hall is a statue of liberty. We all know the famous one in NYC. I found one near the layover hotel in Paris while I was flying. So now I know of three. New York, Paris and Muscatine.
Muscatine is a another classic river town with a well defined downtown area and a redeveloped shoreline. So many river towns have made beautiful parks along the riverfront.
