Cheers Grandma! It’s still cocktail hour. Thanks for setting a good direction for us to follow. I have also heard this is the first drink to be referred to as cocktail.
This drink is a throwback to my grandparents who one day started happy hour when the school bus drove by and it hasn’t stopped yet. I almost feel like we should be watching the Titanic while we make these. But then I remembered the Titanic sunk (RME – like the ship was going to not sink this time?) Maybe Mad Men would be a better choice.
Here’s what you need:
- Whisky – we used Famous Grouse because it is hunting season and it just seemed proper.
- Maraschino Cherry
- Lemon wedge – not a slice (per my grandma)
- Orange slice
- Sugar Cube
- Bitters
Place the sugar cube in the glass and saturate it with bitters. Then muddle the lemon and orange slice. Pour in 2 oz of whisky and garnish with an orange slice and cherry.
Notice the pictures look a little different? The top picture is not muddled. The bottom is muddled.
Enjoy!
