What is the Prayer Bell About?
Sometimes we bring our cares to the world, hoping to find empathy or agreement with our problems from a friend. I know I’m often guilty of looking for support for my needs and complaining rather than going to the Lord in prayer. How easy it is to forget where to turn in the daily busy-ness of life, whether it’s in joy, hurt, confusion, exhaustion or just waiting. Do you need help remembering where to turn too?
Matthew 6:19-21 says, “do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in a steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
If my heart is bent on telling my story to whoever will listen, I risk missing the opportunity to place my treasure where it truly belongs, in the Lord’s safe-keeping.
In Matthew 6:33-34 we are told to, “seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
To learn to pray is an amazing practice, whether you’re a brand new pray-er or a seasoned veteran. Prayer is not our chance to give God our latest updates and bring Him up to speed, but a time to have an intimate conversation with the One who created us. Hopefully, talking with God doesn’t happen only when we’re desperate, but becomes a time we look forward to having daily conversations with Him in thankfulness and with an open heart.
The Prayer Bell is designed to give you a gentle reminder of where to turn first. When you hear the bell ring, remember what it says in Philippians 4:4-8
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”

How was the Prayer Bell made?
Laurie creator of Arise Designs, hand fabricated the first Prayer Bell using a simple fold forming metalsmithing technique. The cross upright was bent into the metal, pounded with a hammer and then reopened. Next the arms of the cross were created in the same manner. What resulted is a cross that springs from the material itself, inseparable from the original material yet distinct, raised and easily discernible. Two of these form folded halves were soldered together to create the bell form. The clapper was then attached, allowing it to hang freely and ring gently when the bell moves. This is the reminder. The bell has been molded and is now cast in the preferred metal and hand polished to order.
