For our guide to 12 quick, easy, low-cost ways you can do up your bathroom and give it a fresh look, have a read of this.

  1. Freshen up your walls

The first thing to do is to freshen up your walls – it is amazing how much of a difference this can make.

Start off by giving your bathroom walls a good clean with warm water and a mild soap. If they come up well, then there is no need to repaint them. However, if your walls still look a little worse for wear, it might be a good idea to look into repainting them.

To repaint your walls, you can either splash out on another coat of  the same paint, or you can repaint in a different colour, it’s up to you. This will probably depend on the size of your budget and how much time you have to work on the project.

  1. Update your sink accessories

Swap your current sink accessories for something a little bit different. You don’t necessarily have to go out a buy a whole new set; you could easily reuse something from the back of your wardrobe.

Pick out a pretty soap dish, toothbrush holder and a small tray to keep your cosmetic bits on. Try to choose something different to your last style, to give the space a fresh, new look.

  1. Add mini sculptures to the room

While you are updating your accessories, consider adding in a few mini sculptures that can be placed around the room.

Adding a mini sculpture to your sink or bathroom shelf, can bring a whole new colour or style to the space, and best of all, you don’t have to buy anything. Instead, have a look around the rest of the house for something that could work well in your bathroom.

  1. Add a table lamp

It may sound odd, but why not add a beautiful table lamp to your bathroom.

While it is important to be careful with electrics in the bathroom, there is nothing saying you can’t put a table lamp in there.

Opt for a table lamp that matches that style and design of your bathroom and works well as a focal point or statement piece.

  1. Replace the mirror

Get rid of your old bathroom mirror and swap it for a different one. While you could invest in a new mirror, you could also find one from the rest of the house to use.

If there is nothing suitable at home, look for a suitably sized mirror in charity shops, on online selling sites and even in junk yards. Just remember that with some sandpaper and a can of paint, you can easily give any piece of furniture a new look.

  1. Add artwork to the room

If you already have artwork in your bathroom, swap it for a different piece of art. To do this, you could either swap it for a piece of art from another room or something from a charity shop or low-cost art site.

Make sure to choose something that works well with the theme and style of the bathroom. For example, if your bathroom has a vintage style, opt for a piece of art that is also vintage, instead of choosing something more modern.

  1. Update your shower

You may not realise it, but updating your shower won’t cost too much and will make a real difference to the look of your bathroom.

Consider investing in a new shower head, a new shower tray and also a new shower door or curtain. For a large choice of shower trays and stylish curtains, have a look online and in your local hardware store.

  1. Consider creating an accent wall

To add a focal point to your bathroom, consider creating an accent wall. You can either do this with paint or wallpaper; it is up to you. As well as simply painting or wallpapering the wall, you could create a patterned wall with a patterned paint roller – this would give the room extra style.

For example, if your bathroom is mainly white, you could create a pastel blue accent wall. This would not only create a focal point, but it could also be used as the foundation for picking out bathroom accessories.

  1. Get creative

Get creative and use small things like bathroom storage to give your bathroom a unique look. For instance, instead of investing in a regular towel rail, use a vintage ladder or a vintage towel rail.

  1. Invest in new cabinet handles

It’s funny how the small things can make a real difference.

Investing in new, modern cabinet handles can make a real difference to the look and style of your bathroom. Opt for something interesting and unique, not something that everyone has – have a look on Etsy to find some interesting designs.

  1.  Swap your laundry basket for a new hamper

Invest in a new laundry hamper for your bathroom. Make sure to pick something that is the right size for the space, and that works well with the design and style of the room.

For example, for a modern bathroom a wicker laundry basket would not work, but for a vintage bathroom, it would work perfectly.

  1. Treat yourself to new towels

Treat yourself to brand new, fluffy bath towels, hand towels and bath mats. There are some wonderful towel and bath mat designs available at the moment – have a look online or in your local home store.
