Healthy Shamrock Shake

Healthy Shamrock Shake

I used to love Shamrock Shakes. Especially this time of year near St. Patrick’s Day. Unfortunately I had the radio on while driving to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota for a cardiac check up when I heard the announcers talking about what is actually in a Shamrock Shake. The thought of enjoying a thick creamy Shamrock Shake and having a crew of heart specialists scrutinizing every aspect of my life just didn’t mix well.

Here are the gory details for a Shamrock Shake: In one 16 ounce serving: 550 calories, 13 grams of fat of which 8 grams are saturated fat, 180 mg of Sodium 96 grams of carbs and a stunning 82 grams of sugar.  Keep in mind this is the small one. The large, 32 ounce one is 164 grams of sugar, which is approximately 19 teaspoons of sugar. The announcers continued on with all the toxic ingredients in a Shamrock Shake as well.
