5 Handy Tips For When You Are Moving Home
Moving home can be stressful, but it doesn’t have to be that way if you get yourself organised and you prepare yourselves for the big move day. If this is your first time moving, here 5 handy tips for when you’re moving home!
1 Make lists
When you move home, you need to be prepped and organised because with so many things that could be on your mind at once it is important that you don’t forget anything. Whether it is something huge, like don’t forget to actually move, or something small like put your shoes on. Writing lists can help make sure that whatever it is, you don’t forget it.
2 Combine everything
If you and a partner are moving in together, while previously living apart, then you probably have 2 sets of everything (cutlery, crockery, vacuum cleaners, furniture – the list is pretty near endless). Decide very early on which sets you will keep and which you will not. Do this together and purge everything that you just don’t want or need. From the collections that the two of you have accumulated over the years, choose the best from each.
This way you not only have the best of each others worlds, but everything will be pretty much right down the line and so avoiding the ‘none of this stuff is mine’ argument.
Anything that you don’t need can be given away to friends, charity shops or sold on auction websites like eBay.
3 Think about a joint bank account
These are very useful indeed for keeping track of outgoings that you now both share, things like grocery shopping, household bills and rent or mortgage payments. You should still keep your own individual bank accounts and just move budgeted money into the shared account each month. This will make managing your money so much easier!
4 Pack everything properly
When you pack your boxes properly, there will be much fewer boxes that need to move around, which can also help you to save money. If there are larger items that you aren’t sure what to do with, or you just can’t quite manage to sell them yet then consider self storage from somewhere like www.lockaway.co.za. There are lots out there, so check which is most local for you.
Labelling boxes for specific rooms will save a lot of time too when you come to unpack everything again.
5 Don’t over do it
It is very easy to get caught up in everything and forget to take care of yourself too. Make sure that you look after your body’s basic needs and make sure that you eat. Getting plenty of fluids into is important too, and so is sleep! All of these things are important, so you should not neglect anything.
When you get to your new place, give your time to settle and adjust to your new home. Until you really do begin to really feel at home you may find yourself still a little tense, but it’s also important to not rush anything.
