Southern Hills Golf Course – Hot Springs, SD
Here is a course that has it all. Great scenery, low rates and challenging enough to make you use every club you have in your bag.
We visited the Southern Hills Golf Course for a private tour. We did not have time to play but did get to drive around in a golf cart to see the course for ourselves. Lots of undulating hills and great views from many of the greens and tees.
Rated at 5,905 yards, this is not the longest course you may have played but it is certainly one of the most beautiful. Lots of wildlife to see too. In this part of the Black Hills you can expect to see Wild Turkeys, Mule Deer and Rabbits.
The clubhouse sits high on a hills with great view in every direction. The facility is quite large and can be rented for banquets or parties. Outside is a great gazebo with a firepit.
The course is owned by the city of Hot Springs so it is open for the public. It is located right on the edge of town too.
We stopped and took some panoramas while we were touring the course. One thing that struck me was how few people we golfing such a beautiful course. This was during high season. One thing I personally don’t like when I golf is crowded courses and having to wait. This does not appear to be a problem here.
Check out the panoramas:
If you plan on visiting the Black Hills, you should consider spending some time in the Hot Springs area. If you are a golfer, this is the nicest course in the Black Hills.

Captain Dan’s Tips: Plan enough time do play this course. We did not allow enough time in the Hot Springs area as there was much more to do than we thought when we planned our trip. Looking for someone to play with? Call Scott at the Chamber. I hear he’s a pretty good golfer and I know he is a great guide around Hot Springs.
