Named after the famous building in New York, the FlatIron Historic Sandstone Inn, is listed on the national historic register. Beautifully restored by the owner, Kara Hagen, this Inn is another great place to stay in Hot Springs, South Dakota. We were lucky enough to get a room our last night in town.

This is a small Inn which makes it all the more interesting. From single rooms to luxurious suites with a fireplace and kitchen, this historic inn is great place to base while in the Hot Springs Area. Convieniently located in the downtown area, most of the attractions or restaurants you may want to see in Hot Springs are within walking distance from the FlatIron Inn. Be sure to check out the Freedom Trail along the Fall river just across the street.

Need a massage or interested in yoga? You need to check out Bluebird Mesa. This is another property owned by Kara. She has great plans for it too. The view of downtown Hot Springs is worth the trip to Bluebird Mesa.

We put together a panorama of the beautiful courtyard area:

We wish we would have had more time to spend at the FlatIron Inn. Because it was high season we did not get a chance to see all the rooms as they had so many guests staying there. Next time we visit Hot Springs we will book a room at the FlatIron Inn ahead of time.

We definitely saved the best for last during our visit to Hot Springs. When you are having a really good time it is always hard to leave. We had commitments in other parts of the Black Hills so back on the motorcycles we went to meet up with friends. Thanks to Kara for the great hospitality and tours of the FlatIron Inn and Bluebird Mesa.

Captain Dan’s Tips – There is so much to do in the southern Black Hills. We recommend that you consider spending a few days in Hot Springs as it is so close to so many parks and attractions. Many are less than an hour away. The FlatIron Inn is a very popular place so book ahead of your arrival. Tara squeezed us in last minute so we were lucky.
