A windows shutter is a window covering that is firm and solid. There are frames instilled horizontally and vertically covering the windows. Types of Window Shutters

INTERIOR

  • Interior shutters are those frames that usually hinge on any one side of the window opening. It swings inwards to allow entry to the window into the room or to let the sunlight enter the room.
  • There are manual shutters that swing inwards and there is a computerized remote control or switch button operated window shutters that do the same work for you via automation.   • There are shutters that cater only to the lower part of the window and these are referred to as Café Type Window Shutters.
  • Apart from these, there is the full height window shutter that covers the whole window lengthwise and widthwise. These are made with a horizontal divider rail that is used to separate the lower part from the upper part.

  • Certain hardwoods such as Mahogany, Spanish cedar and Teak are preferred for exterior window shutters. These breathe out moisture and are resistant to rot and decay. This makes them durable and cost effective. They have tannin present in their woods which make them resistant to decay.

There are exterior storm shutters designed to keep out the effects of a hurricane. These are highly useful in hurricane or tornado prone areas where the primary concern is safety. A strong exterior window shutter or a door shutter is what saves the day for the residents dwelling in such regions.
