The Giacomo – Luxury Boutique Hotel
This summer we took a long motorcycle trip from our home in the Twin Cities in Minnesota to Maine. It seems every year for a long time now, we have headed west for our motorcycle trips. My wife pointed out that we should really try the east coast for a change. As usual my wife was right. There are a lot of places we have not seen in the eastern US, like Niagara Falls. Believe it or not after flying for an major airline for 35+ years, I had never seen Niagara Falls.
Planning a motorcycle trip of this length requires a lot of research. Not only do you have to come up with a route that makes sense, you need to have plan B and sometimes plan C. The weather is not always kind when you travel on motorcycles. Often you have to change your route or change your dates or both. On this trip we were in and out of rain the first three days. We are not spring chickens so it is always a treat to find a great place to stay. Especially after the pounding we took the first few days. Fortunately, we found the Giacomo, a wonderful hotel right near the falls in Niagara Falls, New York.
We were on day 6 of our trip when we arrived in Niagara Falls and very much in need of a good nights sleep. The Giacomo was just what we needed. It is tall building converted into a boutique hotel that really stands out in the Niagara Falls skyline.
We arrived early afternoon so our room was not quite ready. No worries, the Giacomo has a great lounge on the top floor where we kicked back and relaxed a bit. There were great views from the lounge too. In no time at all our room was ready and we finished the check in process. The staff at the front desk was very accommodating to us scruffy old biker types. We even had a secure spot to park the bikes overnight.
Our room at the Giacomo was great. It is always fun to see what designers come up with when they upgrade an older building. This is definitely one of the nicer hotel rooms we have seen. There is a reason that the Giacomo is the #1 rated hotel in Niagara Falls, New York on Tripadvisor. We think the Giacomo rates right up there with Ka lae Kilohana, one of the top Inns in America. We had the pleasure of staying in both hotels this year. (BTW- we gave the Giacomo an excellent rating on TripAdvsor- We don’t give out very many.)
Detail. That’s what separates the the very best hotels from the rest. The Giacomo is very big on detail. The bathroom in the suites is where it really shows. I have seen a lot of hotel rooms all over the world in 35 years of traveling for a living. This room was very nice.
Location is another important criteria for choosing a hotel. The Giacomo is right near where you want to be in Niagara Falls. The park and the trolleys are just a short walk from the hotel.
After we settled in and cleaned up we took the short walk to the Niagara Falls State Park. After a visit to the Visitors Center to get oriented we hopped on the trolley for a tour. We did the Maid of the Mist tour because, well if you go to Niagara Falls it is a must do for every visitor.
The Maid of the Mist loads below the overlook in the picture above. The overlook was really fun too. After our ride on the Maid of the Mist, we hopped back on the trolley and visited Goat Island where we had dinner at the Top of the Falls restaurant. We recommend this restaurant for the views and the food.
After half of a day of riding motorcycles, all the tours and good meal, we were very ready to go back to our hotel room and call it a day.
We slept great and even slept in a little as our schedule for the next day of the trip was only about 140 miles. It was nice to recharge in a hotel like the Giacomo. Thanks for a great stay.
