I love red velvet cake. When I moved to England I couldn’t find it anywhere. Friends would ship me mixes for special occasions knowing I couldn’t get it in supermarkets, but they didn’t send an endless supply so I came up with this recipe. Years later, they finally started selling mixes, but this recipe is so good, I’ve never tried them!
It’s not easy to get that bright, deep red color so my advice is to get paste food coloring. a little goes a long way and you can keep adding tiny amounts until the batter turns the color you are looking for.
