Bringing A Touch Of Elegance To Every Room In Your Home

Bringing A Touch Of Elegance To Every Room In Your Home

You know that feeling you get when you walk into a show home and everything just looks… well, fabulous? How great would it be to have that feeling every time you walked through your own front door? Many of us dream of owning a beautifully elegant home and knowing that we are the envy of our friends and neighbors. But pulling together a look like this isn’t always easy. Opulence does, unfortunately, usually come with a price tag attached, and that kind of budget isn’t accessible for everyone. A solid marble floor and gold chandeliers may be, therefore, out of the question. But there are plenty of other ways in which you can bring a touch of elegance to pretty much every room in your home. Here are a few ideas to inspire you.

The kitchen

Think ‘elegance’ and okay – your kitchen probably isn’t the first place in your home to come to mind. A real, working family kitchen is much more likely to be filled with mismatched crockery and a general mess of ingredients rather than the chic, stylized look we see in magazines or on Pinterest. However, it isn’t always as expensive as you might think to create a high-end look in your kitchen. Simple things such as buying a set of appliances can make all the difference. For example, purchase a toaster, a kettle and a microwave that all match each other – this will look much more classy and well thought out than simply having family hand-me-downs on display. Changing your kitchen lighting can also make a big difference to how the room appears. For example, replace your old-fashioned ceiling lamp with a row of stainless steel hanging lamps that sit above your table, or breakfast bar. Bonus points if they are stainless steel, as this modern kitchen elegance is all about industrial materials. If your budget does stretch a little bit further, consider installing new hardware, such as new flooring or new cabinets. You need to be practical with your kitchen flooring seeing as the space is predominantly a food preparation area. A good option is timber flooring, as it looks elegant while still being easy to clean. As far as cabinets go, matte gray looks great paired with silver handles, and there are plenty of amazing wood colors to choose from too.

The living room

When it comes to renovations, the living room often comes secondary to bigger-scale projects such as the kitchen or the bathroom. But, it is still the room where most of us spend the vast majority of our time when inside the home, and for that reason alone it can be worth giving it some love. It is also worth mentioning flooring again here, but carpets rather than wood or tiles. Living rooms are typically meant to be cozy spaces, and a soft carpet is perfect for helping to create that warm and inviting space. However, if your current carpet is looking a little threadbare, it could be time to invest in a new one. A carpet that is thick, bright and clear of stains immediately makes a living room appear a LOT more luxurious – even if it didn’t cost you that much money to fit. It is also possible to give you living room an elegant vibe with the use of certain accessories. Art is one of them, and hanging a large piece of art as a focal point screams sophistication. If paintings or photography aren’t really your thing (or you are already lacking in wall space), you can get the same effect using an indoor sculpture. Another way to add elegance to your living room is by paying attention to the materials you use in there. An old, scratched wooden coffee table is only going to drag the whole look down. Instead, replace it with a sophisticated glass-top one – you’ll just need to be prepared to clean fingerprints off it every now and again! Silk or satin cushion covers are also a great way to bring opulence to this room, and if you’re cash-conscious, simply opt for a faux version of either of these materials. No one will ever know!

The bathroom

Like the kitchen, the bathroom is another area of your home that holds significant value. Making it appear elegant when you have multiple people using it every day, however, can sometimes cause you a few issues! That said, it is more than do-able. The first step is to pick a theme and roll with it. Most people edge towards shades of blue or green for their bathroom to mirror the appearance of water, but you don’t have to be confined to this theme if you don’t want to. Monochrome bathrooms are becoming more common thanks to the classic vibe they give off, and you can even add a pop of color with a sugary pink or a sunshine yellow if you really want to go against the grain. Obviously, the number one must-have item for an elegant bathroom is a deep, standalone bath – but clearly very few people have the money or the space to accommodate for one of these. For that reason, your best bet is to simply make sure that the bath or shower you DO have is kept as clean and shiny as possible. Stainless steel taps, shower heads and towel rails can all bring a touch of modern sophistication to a bathroom, and they are easy to care for, too. One common reason why many of us struggle to keep our bathrooms looking elegant is because there is so much STUFF everywhere. So, invest in a cute set of waterproof storage boxes, tins or even mason jars to store your toiletries and products in. Everything will be much more contained, and you will also find it much easier to locate the products you need as well. Elegance isn’t something our homes come ready-made with, but by making a few subtle changes, you can easily up the class-factor in your property.
