Smoky BBQ Chicken Pizza

Smoky BBQ Chicken Pizza

A smoky and tangy BBQ chicken pizza recipe that features homemade crust and is topped with mushrooms, spinach, jalapenos, and Gouda cheese.

We all love pizza, right? Pizza or some form of flat bread-y substance covered in toppings must easily be one of the most popular foods in the world. I can’t recall a single instance of someone wrinkling their nose and saying ‘Eh, not really’ when asked if they like pizza. Usually people will tell you their favorite kind of pizza. The varieties of pizza are endless – you can go vegan, vegetarian, low-carb, no carb, gluten-free, or meat lover’s supreme topped with two pounds of cheese. I don’t care – I like em’ all (unless there’s pineapple on it in which case I won’t touch it). I have my tried and true standby pizza recipes but switching things up every now and then usually yields some delicious results. You end up with something like this Smoky BBQ Chicken Pizza. It’s smoky, tangy, spicy, a little sweet. Try to stop at just one piece. I bet you can’t.

The first step to any great pizza is to prepare the dough. I recommend doing this an hour or two ahead of time because pizza dough needs time to rise. Follow this recipe and you’ll be well on your way to perfect pizza dough. After the dough has been rising for awhile heat the oven to 350 degrees. The next step is to bake the chicken. Place 1 lb. of chicken breast or chicken breast tenderloins on a baking sheet. Coat the chicken in 1-2 Tbsp. of olive oil and then add 1 tsp. smoked paprika, 1 tsp. garlic powder, 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper, and a generous pinch of kosher salt and pepper. Toss the chicken breasts in the spices and make sure they’re nice and coated. Pop the pan in the oven and bake for 20-22 minutes. Once cooked, remove the pan and set aside. The first step to any great pizza is to prepare the dough. I recommend doing this an hour or two ahead of time because pizza dough needs time to rise.
