Simple Ways to Refresh Your Home Style

If you’re basically happy with your home décor, but you wouldn’t mind sprucing it up a little, there are lots of small and simple changes you can make to refresh your home style and make the place a bit more interesting…

Update Knobs and Handles

Updating the door knobs and handles inside and outside of your property will take very little time, almost no DIY skills and cost you very little, but it will make a noticeable change to the look and feel of your home, especially if you choose more dramatic crystal knobs and stylized handles, for example.

Create a Feature Wall

If you don’t want to dramatically change the décor and you aren’t up for painting a whole room, giving one specific wall a neck coat of paint or sprucing it up with some colorful wallpaper will transform the whole room and add some interest to the space pretty quickly.

Add a Pendant Light Fitting

Pendant lighting and chandeliers are more attractive than a bulb encased in a simple shade. They add a bit more style and sophistication to the space not only with their style but by the unique way that they diffuse light within the space. Installing pendant lights and chandeliers is pretty simple, but if you really don’t know what you’re doing, it’s best to get a professional in to install it. It’ll only take a few minutes and cost you very little to do this.

Upcycle Furniture

If you’re a bit bored with that oak table or those pine drawers, but you can’t afford to buy new, simply sand them down, prime them and then add a brand new coat of paint, perhaps in a pastel color, to give them an interesting new lease of life. Switch out the old handles for new ones while you’re at it too, and it’ll feel like a whole new piece of furniture.

Place Some Plants

If you don’t already have lots of plants and flowers inside your home, bring some in. You’ll be amazed how much calmer, fresher and relaxing your home feels when you have some little hints of nature around the place. Certain plants will also purify the air, giving you some very real health benefits, too.

Declutter

Sometimes, you don’t have to do any DIY or buy any home furnishings at all to spruce up your home – you simply have to take things away from the space. By taking a weekend to go through your clutter and get rid of anything that you don’t really need and which doesn’t make you really happy, you’ll free up lots of space and make your home look cleaner and fresher than it has in a long time.

Add a Mirror

Adding a large mirror to a small room will immediately make it look and feel more spacious because it will reflect the room back, creating an illusion of space. Mirrors placed in any room also reflect the light and bounce it around the room, immediately making the place feel light and airy.
