As we continue around Lake Pepin we cross the bridge to Minnesota. On top of the bridge and off to the left is a great view of Historic Wabasha, MN. Wabasha is home to the National Eagle Center which is on the south end of the riverside downtown area. Wabasha was a filming location for the movie, Grumpy Old Men.

As we head up the Minnesota side of Lake Pepin the next town is Lake City. This is the largest town on the lake. Lake City is home the largest apple orchard in the state . Along the lake is a beautiful park and walkway with views of the very large marina. Lake City claims to be the birthplace to the sport of waterskiing.

Red Wing, the last city on our trip around Lake Pepin. Red Wing is a neat town with a great downtown area as well as a well developed waterfront on the Mississippi. Technically not on Lake Pepin, Red Wing has the nearest bridge across the Mississippi back to Wisconsin. For a great views of the town and the river valley, take a side trip up to the park on the south side of town.

That’s about it for the roundtrip around Lake Pepin. There is so much that we didn’t cover, but, hey we’re not writing a book.
Time to get back on the Great River Road and keep heading for the Gulf of Mexico. It’s going to start getting cold here in the north country.
