Great River Road 8: Lake Pepin to Marquette, Iowa

A colorful start to the day. Pepin is probably best known as the birthplace of Laura Ingalls Wilder, but today we found some other treasures in Pepin.

One of the first things you see as you drive into the town of Pepin from the north is this really colorful garden center, the Country Stop of Pepin.  We pulled over to take a few pictures and met the owner, Kim Seipel. He told us that we had to have lunch at the Pickle Factory by the river.

How would you pick just the right Pumpkin?

We had been to Pepin a few times before and didn’t even know the Pickle Factory existed. Lunch was on a large deck overlooking the Mississippi and marina. We even got to chat with the owner, Steve Dove. By the way the deep fried Pickles are awesome.
