Rest Stop Near Missouri River

This entry is part [part not set] of 49 in the series All American Road Trip out West 2014

South Dakota Tourism does a wonderful job providing its guests with great information and friendly faces. Maybe that is why their motto is  “Great faces. Great Places. South Dakota.” Rest areas are spotted all along I-90 and do a great job tying together the people and places of South Dakota. All the rest sites had something interesting and unique that made breaks not only restful, but entertaining.

We stopped at the rest area on the east bank of the Missouri River. Inside, it had a mock up and an educational center teaching about the Louis and Clark expedition. They even had a mock up of an oar boat that they would have taken up this area of the river.

Outside, there was another huge picnic area and pet exercise space. Some walking paths brought you right to the edge of the valley. Make sure you check these out and enjoy the wonderful view. But watch out for snakes! (we didn’t see any though)
