Its’ that time of year again! Time to take a Minnesota fall getaway! When the weather starts getting chilly in Minnesota, we like to say “it’s nice sleeping weather.” There is just nothing that compares to sleeping in a log cabin during a Northern Minnesota fall getaway all curled up in a giant quilt. When you stay at Creekside Cabin, you get up and can walk right out onto the deck and see the fog on the lake and the colors in the trees while you enjoy a fresh cup of morning coffee. That is why we are offering a fall getaway deal at Elbow Lake Lodge in Creekside Cabin on our facebook page. Make sure to follow us to stay up to date with our current specials. Now you can plan a great romantic getaway or a last minute vacation for the family.
A Northern Minnesota fall getaway is my personal favorite. I hunt grouse, fish, and just love getting out in the woods or on the lake and fall is an especially gorgeous time of year. These fall escapes are a quiet time and I find it very relaxing. It is the perfect getaway in the midst of school starting, and winding up for the winter season at work.
Compared to summer time, there are very few people at Elbow Lake Lodge. I can tell you it’s not because of a shortage of things to do. The Minnesota fall colors are probably the most popular reason for fall drives and getaways but this fishing is better, the hiking is great, and the area’s attractions are mostly still going.
I recommend taking a day trip out of Elbow Lake Lodge. Start your day at Elbow Lake and drive to the headwaters of the river at Vermilion Dam Lodge where you can see a beautiful rapids.
From there, continue north paralleling the river toward Crane Lake. Stop to see the Vermilion Falls before lunch. After the falls grab a bite at Voyagaire in Crane Lake and hike to the Vermilion gorge.
Here’s a 360 panorama of the falls:
This is a beautiful hike at the edge of Voyageurs National Park. On you return, drive through Orr, Minnesota and walk the Orr Bog Walk before arriving home.
It is a full day trip of driving through a beautiful wilderness that offers you some fantastic Northern Minnesota attractions.
When you return to the cabin at Elbow Lake, enjoy a nice campfire on the beach or in Creekside’s wood-burning fireplace before settling down for the evening. I recommend picking up a nice bottle of wine and roasting marshmallows over the fire before bed.
