Beautiful and Delicious Candied Apples

Beautiful and Delicious Candied Apples

We love candied apples. Even though we have 4 mature apple trees of our own, one of our favorite day trips is a visit to one of the many orchards in our area. The orchards have so many more varieties of apples than our own trees. Besides that the larger orchards have any number of apple treats for you to try and buy too. The bigger orchards offer tours and hayrides. They make it a fun visit for all ages.

Ever wonder about the history of candy apples? Credit for the creation of the first coated apple is commonly given to a candy maker from New Jersey named William Kolb. It seems that Mr. Kolb was experimenting with hard candies in his shop when he happened to dip an apple into the mixture. Not knowing what he had done he put the candied apples on display in his shop window. With a stroke of luck and a little genius it seems that Mr. Kolb had just created the next sugary craze. This all happened in 1908.

Since then coated candy apples have become a popular treat worldwide. Especially in the northern hemisphere.
