The Best All Year-Round Skiing Resorts For Summer Fun
Vacations are a great time to try something new and enjoy a different experience. No one wants to sit by the beach for two weeks of every year doing the same thing. You want to do something new, fresh, and exciting. With a skiing holiday, you get all of that when you hit the slopes. The only thing with skiing is that it is a seasonal sport. Most resorts only open during the autumn and winter months, and that doesn’t give you a big window. Thankfully, there are year-round skiing resorts dotted around the world. Here’s a selection of the very best ones.
Blackcomb Glacier, British Columbia
Summer skiing isn’t easy if you don’t have a glacier handy. Alas, Canada has an array of glaciers that make for great skiing during the summer. Sure, it does take a while to get to the top. In fact, it is a bit of a pain what with the three lifts and the bus. But, when you do get to the top, you won’t regret your decision. The skiing is pretty phenomenal, even though the snow is thin on the ground in some places. The scenery is also breathtaking with the views stretching out for miles around. If that isn’t enough, you can always drop the skis and pick up a bike. After all, you are in the notorious Whistler playground.
Mont Tremblant, Quebec
Staying in Canada for the moment, it is time to move east and visit Quebec. Quebec is a great place to go for a number of reasons, but the skiing is awesome during the summer. Mont Tremblant is open all year round, and you don’t want to miss the fun. There is nothing like experiencing the contrast of the sun blasting down and the snow on the ground. Plus, the entire trip is very affordable. The Mont Tremblant rentals are a great place to stay at a reasonable price, while the basic amenities aren’t overpriced.
Valle Nevado, Chile
Chile doesn’t seem like the type of place that would be good for skiing in the winter, never mind the summer. However, that is why you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. Chile experiences some very extreme temperatures at all times of the year, and they make the country a great place for summer skiing. Because the resort is at altitude, 10,000ft, the snow tends to stick around for the most part. And, the resort is getting better and better every year with new refurbishments and attractions. Valle Nevado is only 40 miles from Santiago too, so it isn’t hard to get to like a lot of resorts.
Mt. Ruapehu, New Zealand
You can’t mention skiing without mentioning New Zealand. Sure, the resorts aren’t massive by any stretch of the imagination. Still, it is all about quantity and not quality. At Mt Ruapehu, you get a lot of quality. For pure, unadulterated fun, there is no better resort in the world. Then, you have the views that gaze over the Pacific. If you enjoy goofing around while marveling at the beauty of the scenery, New Zealand is the place.
As you can see, skiing isn’t just a winter sport.
