- Consider the language
If you’re moving to a country that speaks a language different from your own, you’re going to have to make some adjustments. If you’re moving somewhere, it’s a good idea to get to know the native language. Learning a new language is a rewarding skill to have, and it will undoubtedly help you progress further while you make yourself at home.
- Find somewhere to live
Ideally, you’ll find yourself somewhere to live before you leave your own country. You don’t want to land and be faced with homelessness straight away! That won’t help you feel comfortable at all! That way you can get used to a domestic way of life and discover whether or not you like a certain area.

Loneliness is a big worry when you’re moving abroad. Having no friends or family nearby can be hugely daunting and quite frightening! The best thing you can do is to push yourself to meet new people. You can do this by making friends in a local drinking establishment or by joining a book or running club. There are many things you can do to introduce new people into your life. Being open-minded is essential. Try not to shut yourself off from new people by discarding new experiences. Seek out local expats and searching online to see where potential friends could be hanging out. If you need to learn a new language, finding a study buddy to learn with is a very good idea.
