Swiss Chard and other lettuce. Most people don’t realize that you can plant seeds in the bales, but seedlings can be started earlier in a bale, than can be done in soil. This give you weeks of additional growing opportunities for these leafy plants. Below is a swiss chard. Swiss chard can be planted 6-9 inches apart so one bale will fit about a dozen. You can enjoy two crops of chard per year.
